Addiction - a word that we all want to avoid, but we still indulge into. Drinking, smoking, are the common addictions we know of. But look deeper. Look aroundnot at others but at yourself. Look around yourself and you will realize the addictions you are prone to.

A Day without Addiction - The Yogic Way

Last month, my mobile phone fell, twice. Obviously it cracked the first time and cracked even more the second. When it cracked the first time, I should have immediately done the usual - given it for a makeover with a new screen. Should I have struggled with my eyes to peer into all those messages? The obvious question was how could I live without it for even a day? That seemed unthinkable. The number of messages, calls, emails, seemed such a part of my life. Messages not replied to would be considered rude or an opportunity lost or out of sight is out of mind. All these thoughts arise owing to the ‘prompt’ person that I am. Thus, there is the compelling and urging need to have this gadget. Addiction. Alas!

Well, the day finally came when I had to part with my mobile phone for it to be re-sorted. For some unusual reason, I had a smile on my face rather than a feeling of despair. I felt liberated in a very seemingly calm way. I did think of all those messages that would pile on for me to reply, but suddenly I did not really miss my phone and rather decided to enjoy the moment while it lasted. I continued with the other activities as normal and much more. I was even able to write this article. Technology is surely a need of the hour but should it take over me? No. So, once a week, for 5 hours - no gadgets. Did I just commit to a difficult task? Time will tell.
