Industrial Inspiration

This London influenced contemporary kitchen in Design Yards Ranelagh showroom showcases the linear simplicity of carefully considered modern design.

 

 This urban inspired design, showcasing the best of 21st century handleless kitchen cabinetry, is one of the stunning display kitchens in Design Yards Ranelagh showroom. With a range of classic and contemporary products on display the design team felt there was an opportunity to push the boundaries with this contemporary set, and went on a research mission to London to gain a first-hand understanding of the latest design trends there. ‘Whilst many of our clients still go with our beautiful classic style handpainted furniture, we felt there was a chance to create and showcase a unique new look. We have found the appetite for bespoke contemporary kitchens, in partciular in the Dublin area has increased, so it was something we were keen to capitalise on.’ explains Colm McLaughlin, Senior Designer at Design Yard.

Suitably armed with a full range of fresh design ideas, the design team set about creating the new display. ‘One thing that really struck us from our research was how a matt finish is the more popular look for contemporary kitchens, where in the past gloss was the go to choice. Dark dramatic shades are also very much in vogue for this style of kitchen, so we were keen to create a look that reflected this.’

While visual aesthetic was key, much emphasis was put on making this a real home chefs kitchen. ‘Cooking and entertaining at home is huge now, and we find our clients are becoming increasingly educated and skilled on all sorts of food prepping and cooking. We had recently been to Flanagans Fittings in Dublin, to see there new KitchenAid showroom, and were blown away be the quality of the product’ says Colm, ‘The side by side fridge freezer, which we have in this display in particular is an amazing product at a very reasonable price point. The entire range of appliances have the commercial kitchen premium feel, and we felt this would suit our kitchen display perfectly.’
