HOMI Milan returned in January this year with plenty of interior lifestyle solutions. Locally, even while we draw inspiration from time-honoured Italian design, Sarpi Bridge_Oriental Design Week pays homage to Eastern design by putting together HOMI Asia Design. Annamaria Salinari, president of Sarpi Bridge_Oriental Design Week walks us through the exhibition, and what it entails.
Tell us about Sarpi Bridge_ Oriental Design Week. What inspired it?
Sarpi Bridge_Oriental Design Week was born in 2013, inspired by the desire to create a bridge of opportunity, cultural and economic, between East and West thanks to the design and the art. It is the first oriental fuorisalone of Milan Design Week, unique in Europe. It is not just a design week; it is also a project which creates new collaborations.
Besides serving to bridge East and West, the event also bridges Milan Design Week, which is mostly promotions, and HOMI ASIA DESIGN, which tends towards commercialisation. The future aspiration is to make HOMI ASIA DESIGN the future oriental “Salone del Mobile” in Milan, a landmark and garrison for Asian design.
