Firepits are a popular solution to extend the life of an outdoor entertaining area well into winter. With a thoughtful design and some planning, you can create a welcoming and cosy area to gather with family and friends.
The first thing to think about is the location of your new space. The best spot for a fire pit is a nice open area in your garden, far from flammable materials or structures. That means no overhanging tree canopies, either. You’ll need a flat area, so if your garden is sloped, consider creating levels for this space. Be considerate of your neighbours by avoiding placing the firepit too close to boundaries and upsetting them with smoke.
Consider the desired use of the firepit; perhaps you prefer a secluded part of the garden for valuable privacy, or maybe you want the fire pit to be the focal point of the garden for socializing, eating, and relaxing.
Depending on the location and the design of the rest of the garden, you can use the same materials to seamlessly link the different spaces in your garden. Floors can be paved, tiled, or deco granite. Crazy paving, for example, works well in curved areas.
