LONDON POWERING UP
With the regeneration of the iconic power station, Battersea is set to become one of the hottest hangouts in the city
Just over the bridge from trendy Chelsea, Battersea has long been one of south-west London’s best-kept secrets, appealing to families, international designers and artists with its quintessentially English charm. The revitalised Battersea Power Station is among its newest attractions—the mixeduse complex is a heritage building that’s a celebrated example of Art Deco architecture. The restoration of the historic landmark is led by UK architecture practice WilkinsonEyre, which has kept the original chimney and turbine halls intact in tribute to the vision of Sir Giles Gilbert Scott; the project is slated for completion in 2020. Here, we take a closer look at the district’s notable attractions:
BATTERSEA POWER STATION
One of London’s most iconic buildings, Battersea Power Station is being completely transformed from an industrial eyesore to a vivacious village with hundreds of bars, cafes, shops, cinemas, event spaces and homes set to open. Phase One is already well underway and includes the new outpost of Wright Brothers and The Cinnamon Club’s little sister Cinnamon Kitchen housed beneath a series of stunning apartments. The new-gen power plant will be home to Apple’s London Campus, as well as a private members club, No.18, making it one of the world’s most forward-thinking, fun-filled addresses set within a Grade II-listed building.
