The prolonged stay indoors thanks to the pandemic has caused many to re-evaluate the elements one would consider essential in an ideal home. One definite effect that sheltering in place has had is an increased appreciation for outdoor features such as balconies and patios, a critical reason why this family bought this condo unit.
Previously residing in the apartment on the top floor, the owners craved a change in environment and became instantly smitten with the ample indoor and outdoor space of this 1,432sq ft ground floor unit, along with its high ceilings and pool view. The three-bedroom residence offers ample opportunity for the owners to indulge in their hobbies of aqua scaping and horticulture, which they conveyed to designer Don Ng of Lush Interior.
Since the long patio provides more than sufficient space for plant rearing, a designated spot needed to be created indoors for the owners’ aquarium. For this purpose, Don designed an island counter near one end of the living room. Unlike most aquariums that are backed against a wall, the deliberate island layout allows the aqua scape to be appreciated from all angles. High ceilings let the family fulfil their home cinema dreams— using a home theatre projector, they can enjoy their favourite shows reflected against the tall living room wall. That same wall is also a storage unit, which was designed with a custom ladder for easy accessibility.
