ONE AUTHOR WHO FIGURED prominently in my development as a writer is J.K. Rowling. You know where this is going.
Rowling was - or is - one of my favourite authors. I love her for her brand of escapist literature, and the expert manner in which she writes mysteries (Would you have guessed at your first reading of The Goblet of Fire that it was Barty Crouch Jr. all along?). In terms of craft, she is an elite author.
She has been rightly celebrated for her work, but today, she is also reviled for her stance on transgender individuals.
