Sports – the thrill of victory, the agony of defeat, the highs of a win, the anguish of a loss that can be too hard to take. There is beauty in sports in how it can replicate human drama and unite people. Winning can be addictive and oftentimes, financial lucrative as well. And therein creates the problem, because sometimes you have individuals who would go all out to win, regardless of the rules.

Over the years, professional sports have seen a fair share of unsportsmanlike conduct. This ranges from the cheats to hoaxes and scams as well as dirty deals. But the world of sports also has help created some rather shady characters who display a knack for the deceit that rival the skills of even the most accomplished athlete.

Throughout history, there have been a fair share of perpetrators who have tried to cheat their way into the record books. They have succeeded in some ways too, but not for the glory of winning but for their fraudulent capabilities. Here are some of sports’ greatest cons.
