Revealed! The Secret To Healthy, Lustrous Hair

Thick, silky, bouncy, glossy, that flows with the wind and makes its own moves. Yes, a healthy and lustrous mane is what most women dream of, but only a few actually possess (thanks to their genes). Once thought to be as elusive as the Holy Grail, the secrets are now well within our reach coerced out of some of the top hair experts of the country.

Oily truth

The debate on whether or not oil is as necessary for our hair as we believe it to be has been going on for a while. But the verdict has finally been delivered: Oil is imperative for healthy hair growth, even at an advanced age! Hair expert Atul from Delhi-based Magnifique, The Luxury Salon says, “The hair follicles are nourished by regular oiling. Since the hair becomes deficient in protein, it becomes brittle and leads to many breakages this leads to what we call the baby hair problem (thin and unstable hair). Oils such as castor oil, almond oil and olive oil help regain the strength of the hair protein. The hair shaft is prevented from harm and is well-nourished. Also, Vitamin E, which is a major component of the oils used to massage the scalp, helps to reduce the frizz and brittle nature of hair.”

So there it is in black and white. But that doesn’t mean you douse your hair in oil every night. Beware! It will do you more harm than good. Excess oil attracts dust and grime, and clogs the pores, resulting in hair fall. Beauty expert and aromatherapist Blossom Kochchar cautions, “Oiling once a week is more than enough for normal to oily hair, while those with dry hair may go for oiling twice a week.

Tea tree essential oil works wonders in nourishing a dry scalp. Also, massaging the scalp with essentials oils, like lavender and lemongrass, helps in promoting hair growth. You can also add drops of an essential oil to regular hot oil for faster results.”
