Mixed martial arts coach, Duke Roufus, has a love of Celtic which is both sporting and cultural .
IT’S not uncommon to see the green and white Hoops in a crowd wherever you may be in the world, but the club’s status is more than the jersey and its history transcends the sport of football.
One man at the forefront of his field can testify to that, having supported the Hoops from afar since he was a young child.
More than 3,500 miles separate the cities of Milwaukee and Glasgow, but for Duke Roufus, Paradise has always been closer to home.
Roufus is synonymous within the sport of mixed martial arts, regarded as one of the best striking coaches in the world with multiple world champions hailing from his gym. He has dedicated 40 years of his life to the discipline, but football has always been another sporting love, and that interest led him on the path to becoming a Celtic supporter.
“I started martial arts at four-years-old and then I got into football a couple of years later,” he explained in an exclusive interview with the Celtic View. “My home town of Milwaukee is big on football because of all the different European ethnicities that we have here.
“We’ve always had a pretty rich football culture and it’s been shaped by the Croatian, Serbian, Italian and Polish communities here.
“We also have a big Irish community, so there’s always been influences from Ireland throughout the town.
