Paul Samson on recreating some generous slices of Hoops history in Celtic The Musical

Back by popular demand, Celtic The Musical, tells the remarkable tale of the club through story and song. From Brother Walfrid’s vision, through to the unprecedented Invincible Treble and updated to include last season’s historic Double Treble winning success under Brendan Rodgers.

Paul Samson plays Paddy Quinn on the green and white stage and in an exclusive interview with the View he sat down to tell what the show is all about and explain the magic and emotion that he’s experienced in telling the Celtic story.

“The basis for the show is that there is the Quinn family. Paddy Quinn is myself and my wife Mary and we have two kids,” Samson said. “The daughter, in a lovely twist that I’m sure people will like, is the mad Celtic fan and the son is a bit of a dope who doesn’t quite get it.

“So we convert the son by going through every big moment in Celtic history and my character guides you through the narrative. This family is an everyman Celtic family. We are essentially the Celtic fans through time, but a Celtic family.”

Celtic The Musical is back in the Pavilion Theatre for a second time, commencing on September 5 with new dates announced following the postponement of the original dates due to the Sauchiehall Street fire which closed the theatre.

The actor said: “We were ready to go a few months back and then the fire stopped that. But what you’ve got to remember is that then all these recent things hadn’t quite happened, so the Double Treble wasn’t quite secure yet.

“So for the script that I’ve got sitting at home, if I remember rightly, we would still have to stick these things in.”
