Trying to get laser hair removal as a woman of colour? Technology has finally pulled through!

Laser Tag
If you’re into Star Wars, you know how important lasers are. Or not – I haven’t watched a single Star Wars movie so this could be completely wrong. Eitherway, their significance in the global beauty industry is burgeoning big-time. Whether it’s blemish reduction or hair reduction, lasers are the way forward, even if we’re still a little wary of them in Asia! KINITA SHENOY tries laser hair reduction in Sri Lanka to let you know what to expect.

WHAT’S A LASER?

Put simply, a laser is a concentrated beam of light. This light energy is absorbed by highly pigmented areas (like hair follicles), which are then damaged. This retards hair growth or stops growth completely.

IS IT SAFE?

Yes! There are quite a few misconceptions about lasers as some people confuse them with X-rays or other rays that have radiation. Lasers are simply beams of light and so have no ability to cause cancer, tumours, or any other issues. In fact, lasers are safe to use even on children or for eye surgery. To err on the side of caution, many technicians avoid performing the procedure on pregnant or breastfeeding women.
