A report on the celebration of the International Day of Older Persons in Mumbai by the Dignity Foundation.
There’s nothing like music and dance to lift up the spirits, especially on a day when the downpour won’t stop. Thus, it was sheer exuberant enjoyment of life on October 10 at the CIDCO Convention Centre at Vashi in Mumbai, where the Dignity Foundation celebrated the International Day of Older Persons. The performances by the various Chai Masti centres of Mumbai were all unique, entertaining and full of energy and enthusiasm, whether in the form of renditions of songs from old Hindi films or a rhythmic yoga presentation or a skit explaining what GST is or the fusion dances.
Earlier in the day was a recipe contest presided over by jury members Lulu Raghavan, Managing Director, Landor; Tara Deshpande, noted actor, writer and model; and dieticians Deepa Nandi and Dr. Rathnaraje Thar. The chief guest for the evening was Dr. N Ramaswamy, Municipal Commissioner, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation. Dr. Sheilu Sreenivasan presented the annual report of Dignity Foundation (DF) and Dignity Lifestyle Trust (DLT), highlighting the exemplary portfolio of projects undertaken over the past one year. For those who missed out on the event, here is an abridged version of what Dr. Sreenivasan said on the occasion.
