What does your everyday attire say about you? It may say you have a taste for the finer things in life. Or that you have a unique sense of style. Or the opposite – that you don’t care a lot about your appearance. Regardless of what you’re wearing, it generally says something about you. This principle applies to what you wear to the gym as well, albeit in a slightly different way.
What you wear to the gym is certainly an expression of yourself, but it can also serve a larger purpose.
Let’s start with the basics. In general, when I look good, I feel good. That’s probably a safe assumption for most of us. So, I usually invest in gym wear I feel good in, and, perhaps, gives me a little reminder with the image or quote on it. It puts me in a good headspace to perform my best. I also prioritise functional needs, so my gym wardrobe features a variety of apparel that suits different purposes. For example, if the weather is cold and part of my workout is outdoors I may throw on full-length compression tights and a compression top. When it’s hot, I don’t. But I always wear compression shorts because I like the extra support it gives my trunk area, where so much of my power comes from.
