In a world where live watch fairs and exhibitions seem to be a distant memory, Omega has managed to be the first brand to kick off the avalanche of virtual watch shows, showing us what’s been brewing in the hermetically sealed confines of its manufacture in Bienne, Switzerland. For 2021, Omega has revealed a fresh set of watches with the mainstays of the brand – the Speedmaster and the Seamaster – getting some fabulous updates.
OMEGA SEAMASTER DIVER 300M BLACK BLACK
The stealthiest of Seamaster Divers is here, as indicated by Omega’s repeated use of the word “black”. Indeed, the watch is black, with Omega having used ceramic as a canvas to create a watch so dark, it lights up the anthracite Super-LumiNova numerals and hour markers underwater unlike anything else. The anthracite in this case turns the hour markers grey in broad daylight, helping retain the uniform and muted shade of matte black. What makes the watch unique is the integrated rubber watch strap with a buckle that’s also made of the same unique black ceramic composite.
It’s not just the fact that it’s uniformly black that makes it an extreme tool watch. Every detail on the dial is laser-ablated, from the wave motif to the minute track and the wording, and even the logo. All crafted onto a single piece of ceramic.
With Omega announcing that going forward all its products will be Master Chronometer certified, CEO Raynald Aeschlimann is quite bullish about the brand’s future prospects. Following the release of the all-new 2021 novelties, Aeschlimann sat down with us to talk about Omega’s role as the official timekeeper for the Olympics and his love for the new Speedmaster.
A FAVOURITE FROM THIS YEAR’S COLLECTION.
