Having a baby is often the happiest time in your life. However, many mothers find it hard to accept their body changes post pregnancy.
The body changes seen after childbirth have led some women to not enjoy new mommy bliss as they could. While either psychologists or psychiatrists treat postpartum depression, the body changes seen after childbirth are best addressed by a plastic surgeon. This happens in the form of a “mommy makeover”. Postpartum body changes that plastic surgery can address include breast deflation and emptying, abdomen wall laxity and bulging, as well as vaginal laxity and urinary incontinence.
WHAT IS A MOMMY MAKEOVER?
Mommy makeover is plastic surgery with the goal of rejuvenating the breasts, belly, vagina, or any combination of these. The procedures most commonly involved are:
1) Breast Rejuvenation: Breast augmentation, reduction, or lifting
2) Body Contouring: Tummy tuck(Abdominoplasty), Liposuction, or Circumferential Abdominoplasty
3) Vaginal Rejuvenation: Non-surgical (High Intensity Focussed Ultrasound or Radio frequency), the “O-shot” or Surgical Labioplasty
4) Other: Thigh or Arm lift
BREAST REJUVENATION
Breast changes during and after pregnancy are hard to predict. A third of women develop smaller breasts, a third bigger, and a third stays the same. Breast augmentation involves the placement of an implant behind either the breast or the muscle in order to increase the size of the breast. This procedure may also involve elevating the nipple to the correct position, referred to as a mastopexy.
A breast reduction involves repositioning the nipple, while simultaneously reducing the volume of breast tissue. This is done via a Wise Keyhole pattern, resulting in well-hidden scars, and enhanced breast aesthetics. This is one of the most successful procedures in plastic surgery with a satisfaction rate of 95% and an increase in quality of life assessment scores.
