When it comes to your daily skincare routine, just how many steps should you incorporate for optimal efficacy?
It all really depends on your individual skin type, skin needs, personal preference and the amount of time you have on hand. We know that it can be an arduous task sifting through the real gems from the massive selection of skincare products, not to mention fast fads available on the market. In fact, according to Dr. Justine Hextall, a dermatologist at The Harley Medical Group, having regimes that are far too complicated will end up doing more harm than good by disrupting the skin’s pH balance and damaging its natural moisture barrier. She also notes that most of her patients in their 20s and 30s deal with chronic skin issues due to frequent changes in products and having extreme skincare regimes. Her advice? To exercise caution, find something that works for you, and stick to it. The ingredients in each product can take anywhere between three to eight weeks to take effect, so don’t feel discouraged if you don’t see immediate results.
