For those who believe it, fate can work in mysterious ways. Two kindred spirits with a passion for music - combined with the help of Craig’s List and some skilled musicianship - was just the right formula to create this two piece band, Little Hurricane.
Back in 2010 Celeste “C.C” Spina, worked as a culinary chef. Although she loved cooking, the passion for it as a career was lost. Whilst moving, Spina unpacked a box where she found a pair of the drumsticks she had used during her school years - the urge to play was too strong.
Using books she had in her home she made a makeshift drum kit on the coffee table and started to practice, seeing if she could remember the rudiments and different things she’d learnt. After the eight year hiatus, she saved up and purchased an electronic drum kit. Looking back she said, “I got the drum kit and it just felt like home to me”. Spina’s experience applying for bar work opened her eyes to the kind of reach Craig’s List had, so she posted an ad looking for a songwriter-guitar player and that was where she met fellow band mate Anthony “Tone” Catalano. She recalled how much his resume stood out, “I didn't believe it at first just because it was so impressive. He said that he had played in a jazz band growing up and that really drew my attention. I knew you had to read music and improvise so I responded, he came over and we had a practice. It felt like magic right from the first time.” Through this meeting they also found out they were practically neighbours, just living a few blocks from each other. Spina said, “It really felt like it was meant to be”.
