Their artistic and aesthetic sense comes naturally to the founders from their parents who are both interior designers. This allows the founders to design accessories that bring a blend of panache and simplicity.
Experienced in the field of designing, Sonika heads the role as Chief Designer which also includes interior design. She claims that she derives her inspiration from simplicity and structural integrity. This design philosophy results in sharp products, which provide functionality and utility. Whereas Samit heads the role of Management and Finance. He ventured into the idea of ‘designing’ a personal business that brings in the synergy of the duo.
In an email interview with S&A’s Bobo Meitei, the sibling said, ”San Calpa aims to grow and compete with international niche brands like Sophie Hulme, Mansur Gavrial, Polene and Cult Gaia to name a few.” An excerpt of the interview.
How different is San Calpa from those in the competition?
Sonika: Our design philosophy is a crucial factor in differentiation. San Calpa aims to grow and compete with international niche’ brands like Sophie Hulme, Mansur Gavrial, Polene and Cult Gaia to name a few. San Calpa as a brand endeavours to deliver an experience, and not just a leather handbag. Many brands in India and infact even globally, try and avoid hardware in designing as it reduces the cost burden significantly. Whereas, we strive to provide an overall luxurious experience for half the price, that’s embedded not only in our design, but also in our leather, hardware and packaging. We provide an experience for the senses by working for quality.
