Compact Phone With Affordable Price, High-End Hardware
Lenovo introduced the Zuk sub-brand earlier this year with the Zuk Z1, to take on the competition that predominantly sells online. While the overall device was packaged nicely at an attractive price, consumers had to deal with ageing hardware. The Zuk Z2 Plus, which we are testing this month, tries to overcome this by powering the phone with the best-available hardware at a competitive price.
FUNCTIONAL DESIGN
Let’s be straight upfront: No one will come up and ask you “Hey, what phone is that?” The Zuk Z2 Plus is not designed to be a looker but we wouldn’t say it’s an unattractive phone. It focuses more on function than looks.
The Z2 Plus features a glass back which makes the phone a bit slippery. This is compensated for by its thick chassis and fiberglass frame. Speaking of which, the fiberglass also ensures better cellular coverage. The phone is also designed with what Lenovo calls a “true one hand design”. The company has actually kept in mind the anthropometric estimates of Asia-Pacific users, thus making the phone compact, and easy to be used in one hand.
Lenovo has taken some inspiration from its ThinkPad products. The phone boasts a roll-cage design that mounts all the key components on a metal frame for added durability.
