Wild Women... love to run!
TRAIL|Issue 21

Lucille van der Merwe describes Wild Women on the Run: “This is not a race, it’s a journey. We run all day and then sleep at hotels where we drink champagne, swim in the pools, pop each other’s blisters, massage our sore bits, and basically medicate one another. It’s a hugely bonding experience.”

- Kim Van Kets
Wild Women... love to run!

Lucille and Kim van Kets created Wild Women on the Run five years ago, and they have been taking 20 or so women on an annual adventure down the Wild Coast ever since.

This group of women of all ages and fitness levels take a 100km journey along the Wild Coast, without the costs, pressure, isolation, or men which they encounter at races.

The only selection criteria are: no whiners and no duds.

WILD WOMEN ARE LIFE CHANGERS

The effects of these journeys are varied and far-reaching. Here are some testimonials from the Wild Women themselves.

“I have spent the better part of 42 years waging an internal war with myself over my self-concept and body image. I have been a very mean girl to myself. My biggest fear has been that I pass this on to my daughter.
