Down The Christmas
Tatler Singapore|December 2021
Memory Lane The festive year end means family get‑togethers, big bashes and travelling with loved ones. Or at least, it did in pre‑pandemic days. As we approach that time of year, our Tatler friends share their memorable moments and holiday traditions, old and new

Down The Christmas

WHAT’S OLD IS NEW

AGAIN Sebastien Lepinoy, director of culinary and operations at Les Amis “For my family, Christmas is a great opportunity to travel and explore the countries around Singapore. It’s been one of our family traditions, pre-Covid, to end the year with gratitude for all the new experiences we’ve had.

However, with the pandemic, we’re making the most out of staying at home by transforming some old traditions into new ones. One of my favourite activities growing up was decorating the tree with my family on December 6, with Christmas music blasting throughout the house. Since last year, my daughter and I have continued the tradition, and it’s been an unforgettable experience. This year, I plan to start another new tradition with her. I don’t know what it will be yet, but I’m excited to see how we can add to our book of family traditions.”

FAMILY MAYHEM

Shireena Shroff Manchharam, image consultant and happiness coach “Every December would start with a trip to Bali—or at least it did before Covid-19. Usually, we join my in-laws and other family members to throw Christmas-themed parties at several orphanages that my father-in-law works with. Christmas is a time to remember that it’s not all about receiving presents but about giving too, so we invite the kids to spend the day with us, where we all eat, sing, dance, perform skits and have a merry day together.
