When it comes to Blancpain and its iconic Fifty Fathoms collection, the market tends to make the understandable error of lumping the Bathyscaphe into the same series. Understandable only because the heritage of the Bathyscaphe is intimately woven with that of the Fifty Fathoms.
Launched in 1956, three years after the original Fifty Fathoms, the Bathyscaphe was conceptualised as the world’s first “daily beater”. Where the tool watch Fifty Fathoms measured 40mm and up, then-CEO Jean-Jacques Fiechter conceived this model as a wearable alternative in a world of 35mm watches.
