Keen to look at different ways to get active, myCornwall’s Alex Saunders has searched the county far and wide for some fun, unusual and easy activities that will suit everyone from grandparents to kids!
Whilst much of Cornwall may still feel asleep during the Winter months, there is plenty going on to get you feeling fresh and fit once again. Whether you’re looking to blow away the January cobwebs or just enjoy the feeling of the outdoors, we have a selection of engaging, affordable and easy activities for you, your friends and family to take part in.
WALK KERNOW
This was something we really loved the idea of, especially for those who are looking to get fit but don’t fancy a gym environment or membership. You may have seen Nordic Walkers before clasping their poles as they traverse the Cornish landscape. It’s a whole body exercise that’s a great calorie burner as well as a brilliant way to improve your fitness without too much impact. You can walk as fast or as slow as you like.
Walk Kernow believes the moto ‘No pain, all gain’ is best suited for this activity. Fitness and calorie burning doesn’t always mean aching limbs and muscles and Nordic Walking really is for everyone and all abilities. It’s a great way to make use of Cornwall’s many wonderful coastal paths and provides the reward of some great scenery and fresh air. Walk Kernow offers a variety of packages and sessions, from Beginners’ Workshops with a qualified instructor at Trelissick Gardens to a full Nordic Walking experience from flat, gentle strolls to long, steep hikes. The teams walk in all weathers, so be prepared with suitable clothing (they only cancel a walk due to severe weather or lightening…understandably).
There are organised walks at a variety of locations throughout the year regularly, so there’s no excuse not to get going!

The Buzz About Bude
Whilst October and November might be the start of quieter months for much of Cornwall, it seems that in Bude there is no sign of winding down from the summer hustle and bustle just yet.
