BOYER HONORED TO TAKE OVER DEFENSE

Josh Boyer will become the sixth defensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins in the past six seasons, and the sixth to handle that role in the NFL for the first time.

While this represents the highest level Boyer has reached in his profession, he said he was perfectly fine in his previous role as defensive pass game coordinator/cornerbacks coach.

But Boyer accepted nonetheless when presented with the opportunity to replace Patrick Graham, who left in January after one season to become assistant head coach/defensive coordinator of the New York Giants.

In explaining in a Zoom media session what the new role means to him, Boyer talked extensively about his immense respect for the most decorated defensive coordinator in Dolphins history, the late great Bill Arnsparger, who recently was honored with the Paul “Dr. Z” Zimmerman Lifetime Award.

“I would say being the defensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins, and there’s a rich alumni history here, knowing the standard is pretty high with Bill Arnsparger, I consider it an honor and a privilege,” Boyer said. “It might not personally have been something that I was looking to do, but I’m very honored to do it. I take my job very seriously.
