“I love my home,” Jones said. “I’ve been here 10 years. It’s home for me. I love the guys in this locker room. I just love South Florida. I just want to see the Dolphins win football games and I’m willing to do whatever it takes for us to win.
“I’m here for the long haul. Like I said, I’m here to help this team win football games.”
With John Denney no longer on the roster, Jones is the longest-tenured player on the Dolphins. He joined the team in 2010 when he was a fifth-round pick out of Georgia.
Jones said he hadn’t specifically told the team he wanted to stick around but added he didn’t feel the need to do that.
“I don’t know if they know,” he said. “I mean I think they pretty much know. If I wanted out, I had a chance to make that known. I’m here for the long haul. Like I said, I’m here to help this team win football games.”
QB situation ‘settled’
Josh Rosen was happy about the vote of confidence he got from Head Coach Brian Flores saying that the quarterback situation was “settled,” but he’s thinking beyond this year.
Rosen, who was acquired on the second night of the 2019 NFL draft in a trade with the Arizona Cardinals on the one-year anniversary of being the 10th overall selection in the 2018 draft, is hoping to help the Dolphins win in the immediate future while at the same time showing the organization he’s the long-term answer at quarterback.
Veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick started the first two games of the season at quarterback for the Dolphins, with Rosen getting action off the bench both times. The change to Rosen as the starter was made late in the week of practice before the game against the Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 22.
