Musician Sid Sriram brings his inner chaos to musical canvas with his album Entropy.

Sid Sriram started learning the nuances of singing and music composing when he was three. His musical influences include R&B, Carnatic music, hip hop and alternative/ambient music. We caught up with Sid as he basks in the success of the first single It Isn’t True from his album Entropy. Excerpts from the interview:

When did you first realise that you wanted to pursue a career in music?

Music was like second nature to me. I didn’t necessarily think about it being a career option until I was in Xth grade. That’s when I discovered Berklee and realised that music could be my career path. My parents really pushed me to follow my passion. So, it was an easy decision to make. Coming from a Carnatic lineage allowed me to be surrounded by music growing up. My mother started her music school in Fremont, California in 1992 so it was always around. Carnatic music is my foundation and it has afforded my creative and artistic framework.

You graduated from Berklee College of Music with a degree in Music Production and Engineering. How has your time at Berklee shaped your sound and music?

My time at Berklee is when I really started crafting my sound. Before Berklee, I had never written my own music or thought about bringing my influences together. At Berklee, I was exposed to different kinds of music. Being around other young artists all the time was inspiring. My major was Music Production and Engineering, and that is how I really learnt about the art form of producing records and creating and writing with intention. I started bringing together my love for R&B, Carnatic music, hip hop and alternative/ambient music started at Berklee. And with Entropy, I create a sonic space where all these influences coexist.

What was the idea behind your upcoming album Entropy?
