The Question Is A Simple One. Do You Really Need A Coach? The Answer Is A Resounding Yes, And Not Just Because I’m Biased!
Having a coach is like having a motor on your paddle boat. If, and when, that paddle boat gets out of control and starts to go the wrong way, you can start the motor up and just get back on track to your end destination. Better yet- keeping the motor running means you never veer off course.
Having a coach doesn’t necessarily mean the journey is easy. By having someone in your corner, you automatically hold some accountability. A good coach will require daily, weekly or monthly check-ins and you should be prepared to receive positive and negative feedback from time to time. Some people find that very hard, especially when they have cheated or made mistakes with their plans- but ultimately your coach is there to get you to your end goal in the most painless way possible, and once you realise they are on your side, and start to work with them, even the unthinkable can be achieved! Ultimately though, a coach can only do so much. They can and should tell you why and how to get through your journey, but if you are not committed and passionate about whatever your goal may be, they cannot do it for you.
I have coached hundreds of athletes over my career, but when it comes to achieving my personal goals or breaking plateaus, my best results have been while I have had a coach- someone taking the weight off my metaphorical shoulders (no-one steals my reps) and allowing me just to focus on eating and training.
