The new poster boy of Hindi cinema is a fun guy who’s not scared to be himself. He talks to maxim about the movies, his style and why it’s important to not take yourself too seriously. We agree.
So, your first Maxim cover, and one of only three men’s we’ve had. How do you feel?
It feels very good to be in Maxim and I’m very excited about the shoot. It’s a good day when you have a cool setting, a great team and beautiful girls. I’m looking forward to this cover coming out.
You’ve done a number of covers. What do you think is different about this?
You’ve said it yourself… you guys rarely have a man on the cover. Plus, I like the idea of a story when it comes to a shoot. The setting—that we’ve had the after party, and are then getting ready for another and the fact that there’s a little bit of mischief—is very cool.
From a Delhi boy to a style icon. How was the journey?
Growing up in Delhi, my first tryst with fashion happened when I started modelling. When you’re in that profession, you wear different colours, fits, kinds of clothes, styles… I did a lot of Fashion Weeks between 18 and 20, and I’m using all that I’ve learnt in my choices today. I like to keep it casual and yet experimental. I like faded stuff which is a little grungy. A baseball cap is the easiest thing to wear. Also, glares add to your style. I have a big collection of sunglasses. I try to have them for different moods. You can wear a simple black or white tee and put on a funky pair of glares. It looks really cool.
Men are still getting comfortable with the idea of adding accessories to their looks. What is your take?
As far as accessories go, I have always liked wearing something on my hand, which is mostly in black. Even if it is a thread around my wrist. Or something metallic at times. Just an element that makes a huge fashion statement.
