Q: With perhaps five new starters on the offensive line, how tough was it developing chemistry between the guys with no offseason practices?
A: With the web meetings that we had, spending some time at the beginning of the meeting, and at the end, to just try to get to know everybody, let guys yuck it up a little bit, if you will, have fun virtually — interact that way. With the video, get to know guys best you can. It wasn’t 100 percent just football — talked about life and families.
Q: With Mekhi (Becton), his size allowed him to dominate on the college level, but mechanically and as a technician, where do you think he is?
A: For any rookie, no matter what his size, or what school he played at, what competition level, it’s going to be a jump to the NFL. You are playing against guys who’ve been working on their craft at this level for a few years. By no means is he raw, but he still has a lot to learn like every other rookie, and we are really excited to get to work with him on the field.
Q: Obviously there were no on-field spring camps — how much did that set Mekhi back?

FIRST DOWN- A lot of potential, but a lot to learn
There is a lyric in an old song by the rock group Chicago that sums up where Zach Wilson is right now:
IN HIS OWN WORDS WITH DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR JEFF ULBRICH - Ulbrich breaks down Jets' defensive personnel
(Marcus Maye) can do it all. I would feel comfortable with him (at free or strong safety). Heâs a guy that, to me, he can play deep, he can play the half field, he can play the middle third, he can do that and you feel comfortable with it. I think heâs got range, speed and athleticism. I think heâs got ball skills and instincts to be a deep safety. But I think heâs got enough size and girth and want-to and courage to play in the box. Itâll be fun to utilize all the things that he does. He can cover tight ends; he can cover some of the wide receivers in this league.

Jets hope initiatives will increase winning edge
Aside from adding as many good players as possible to help the Jets improve, coach Robert Saleh and GM Joe Douglas are trying to turn over every stone to find extra ways to give their team a winning edge, and two examples of this were announced over the course of the offseason, with the additions of a game management coach (Matt Burke) and the installation of an Athletic Care and Performance Department. Letâs take a closer look at these two moves and how they might help the Jets:
