Squeezing shower gel into my hand, I lathered up. Only, as I washed, I felt a small, hard lump between my breasts.

What’s that?

I worried.

My GP referred me to a cancer clinic, just in case. Only, a mammogram found something…

‘There’s some thickening of the tissue,’ the nurse said, referring me for a biopsy and ultrasound.

It’ll be fine, I told myself.

But, days later, in May 2015, my mum Lynne, 67, waited outside as I got my biopsy results.

‘I’m afraid it’s stage-4 breast cancer,’ the specialist said.

I went cold, my three kids Max, 11, Bailey, 10, and Ava, 8, flashing through my mind.

What would they do without me? I panicked.

A single mum, they were my whole world.

The specialist explained I’d need surgery to remove my right breast and lymph nodes.

Stunned, I went back to the waiting room, shaking my head, unable to speak.

Mum cuddled me, both of us in shock.

‘We’ll fix this,’ Mum said.

I’ll fight it – for the kids, I thought.

Only, then my ultrasound results came back. The cancer was already in my stomach, spine and adrenal glands.
