Losi’s TEN-MT packs big power in a small package

Losi’s TEN platform has been around since 2009, when it started out as a nitro powered monster truck called the TEN-T. Since then, the platform has been used to make a short-course truck, a rally car, a desert buggy, and more. The latest version circles back around to its monster-truck roots, but this time it has electric power. New items to the platform, such as a molded plastic chassis, fixed-length camber links, and plastic body shocks, reduce the overall cost without sacrificing durability and fun. A 3S-capable 130-amp speed control and a 3800Kv brushless motor give this little truck plenty of scoot, while Spektrum’s AVC provides assistance to keep it arrow-straight no matter how rough or loose the conditions are. Sounds good, right? Read on as we take a closer look at the truck that Losi calls the “TEN-MT.”

3-DIFF SHAFT DRIVE

A shaft-driven 4WD drive train gets the wheels spinning and is basically a smaller version of what is used on Losi’s 1/8-scale vehicles. It uses front, center, and rear differentials that have grease inside to keep the bevel gears in the housing from wearing. The housings are sealed, so fluids can be used for tuning if you choose to do so. The center-diff housing and plastic spur gear that is attached to it is protected by a plastic housing. Dog bones are used to transfer power to the front and rear differentials, but the wheels get smoother (and rebuildable) CVA shafts.
