Unfortunately for those that are frustrated or angry, the fade is not only coming back, but it almost surely will be a much bigger part of the Washington offense in 2017.
Why? Because the head coach and play caller loves the fade and when run correctly – the concept is difficult to defend. Especially when you heavily invest in a “franchise” quarterback and reel in a lot more size at receiver than the Redskins have had for a long time.
Terrelle Pyror, Sr. replaced DeSean Jackson. Jackson is 5-feet-10 and Pryor is 6-4 and incredible athleticism.
Josh Doctson is the natural replacement for Pierre Garcon. Doctson is 6-2 with the highest vertical jump among receivers in his draft class at 41 inches and the second best broad jump in the same group.
Doctson can jump out of the gym – if he can stay on the field.
If you look back at Doctson’s NFL.com draft profile when he was a 2016 first-round pick of the Redskins from TCU, analysts and scouts noted that Doctson “climbs to snare jump balls and has body control to adjust in midair” with strong hands that “help him secure catches through contact.”
