Sundberg Produces In A Snap
The Washington Redskins lost several key players in free agency last spring, but one player they chose to keep and make a multi-year commitment to is tied for the second-longest tenure as a Redskins player on the opening training camp roster.
Long snapper Nick Sundberg isn’t just a specialist. He’s special – a Redskin who represents what is right about the organization and maybe the best at his position in the National Football League.
DeAngelo Hall has been in Washington longer, but Sundberg and Trent Williams have been with the organization since the start of the coach Mike Shanahan era and the three-year plus tenure of successor Jay Gruden.
Gruden, a player’s coach, makes everybody feel comfortable, yet motivated.
“That’s why I signed so quick,” Sundberg said. “I love being around Jay, Ben [special teams coordinator Ben Kotwica,] Tress [Way] and Hop [kicker Dustin Hopkins]. I really, really like the direction that Jay has taken this team. I love playing for Coach Gruden. I want us to win games, so he can be around longer.”
Sundberg, undrafted out of California recalled “when I was kind of weighing options, that outweighed everything else.”
