Rookies Leading Way to Resurgence
Giants fans are starting to get excited and for good reason. The G-Men are on a four-game winning streak and are keeping pace with the Cowboys for first place in the NFC East. Now it’s time to give some love to some players that usually do not get many headlines. That’s right, I am talking rookies.
For several years now there have been rumblings about GM Jerry Reese not adding the pieces needed for the Giants to contend for the postseason and ultimately the Super Bowl. This season however has been a pleasant change. Not only did the Giants go out and spend a lot of money on free agents, who are really contributing to their success, but they seemed to have a really nice draft. Some may say they would’ve liked to have seen the offensive line deficiencies addressed in the draft, but there is no denying that NY’s youngsters have contributed on both sides of the ball.
There were a lot of skeptical Giants fans when Eli Apple was selected with the 10th overall pick, but it appears he was worth it. It is true that Apple was benched in the second half of the Eagles game due to bad play, but one must be pleased with how he bounced back. Although he did not have to deal with the likes of AJ Green in the game against the Bengals, he did have to go against a veteran receiver in Brandon LaFell. Bengals fans should’ve put out an APB for LaFell as he was nowhere to be found — being shut down by Apple and limited to one catch for the game. Giants fans should be happy that Apple appears to be a solid corner that has a bright future.
