Deltoid Domination

Don’t we all want to be that guy that has to turn sideways to walk through doorways because his shoulders are just too broad to walk through normally?

Okay, no, we don’t. But there is something to be said for that upside down triangle look on a well-built guy. Not in a pervy way, but respectful. The guy who trains his shoulders and traps can pull off the tightfitting tops with ease and confidence. But how exactly does he do it? Granted, we are all different, so what you see The Hulk doing at your local “bar” is not necessarily going to work for you but the idea is to try it out, see if you make improvements from there and adjust accordingly.

A quick briefing on the basics: You have three heads in your shoulder – the anterior (front), rear (back) and lateral (side). For those of you who love training chest, your anterior (front) head of your deltoid gets exercised along with your pectorals so these are generally the strongest of your three heads. You would think that the same applies to the rear deltoids, when you train your back but this is not the case – they are actually the weakest of the three so pay a little bit of extra attention to them.

Warming up is crucial to any workout, so don’t forget to do that here too. No one wants a torn rotator cuff, m’kay?
