When James Cain was studying for a masters in scriptwriting in Wellington, he got a part-time job in a video store to help pay the bills.
There, as the budding playwright got to know the owner and the other employees, he gained an insight into “the quirky relationships of small workplaces”. He also experienced the store go out of business.
This memory – along with helping his grandmother move house – has found its way into Movers, the 25-year-old’s first production, which is touring the country.
