THE UNSUNG HEROES OF COVID-19
Northeast Today|May 2021
At a time when doctors and healthcare workers have been working relentlessly to serve and help the people in distress suffering because of the COVID-19 pandemic, there have also been a few individuals who have gone out of the way to help the people affected in this pandemic. Northeast Today reports on a few individuals and organisations who have turned out to be real superheroes without a cape and have gone out of the way to reach out to people since the pandemic began.
THE UNSUNG HEROES OF COVID-19

Prologue

The COVID-19 pandemic has been tough for everyone. The role of doctors, healthcare officials, and other frontline workers have been immensely appreciated. These frontline workers risk their lives every day to ensure our safety and good health. Since the beginning of the pandemic we have lost several doctors and other healthcare officials, however, this has not been able to break their spirits. The deaths of their colleagues have only motivated the doctors' and the healthcare workers' fraternity.

The pandemic has also introduced us to individuals who have gone out of the way to help not just people in distress, but also those stray animals that are rendering shelterless and without food due to the closure of the restaurants and other shops. These are heroes without a cape who are working selflessly, thinking nothing in return.

A Few Unsung Heroes

I have been feeding biscuits to several dogs since the lockdown was imposed last year. As these poor animals have no place to go during this tough time, hence me feeding them with biscuits has given them some respite. I do it out of love that I have for these strays, said a Guwahati-based senior journalist to Northeast Today seeking anonymity.

What I am doing is an act of humanity and I feel each one of us, who can contribute a bit for the betterment of the society, should do, and I don't feel the need of a special recognition for this act, he further added.
