CLUBS VITAL TO THE COMMUNITY

BASFORD UNITED chairman Chris Munroe says there needs to be greater understanding of what Non-League clubs mean to their communities.

The Pitching In Northern Premier League Premier Division club are based in Nottingham which means they fall into the Tier 3 category and would have to play behind closed doors if games were to go ahead.

It means they emerge from lockdown in a worse position than before when, although the area was still in Tier 3, they were still allowed fans in their ground and still able to operate their catering facilities.

And the chairman, who has overseen a remarkable rise for the club, admits the whole situation is hugely worrying.

Munroe told The NLP: “What are the reasons? Somebody either needs to show us the science or show us that people are catching the virus in open spaces at football grounds where there is 400 people in a 3,000-capacity stadium – it’s just bizarre and it’s going to send reams of clubs to the wall.
