Marvellous Mitch halts Hatters

MITCH Walker saved a penalty six minutes from time to ensure Aldershot Town dented Stockport County’s promotion charge.

The Shots keeper superbly kept out John Rooney’s tame spot-kick after the Hatters playmaker saw his cross handled by Dinesh Gillela.

It meant this slow-burner of a match in sub-zero temperatures stayed goalless with the home side missing out on the chance to go back up to second in the table.

“Look at the quality of their side and we definitely rode our luck at times, admitted Aldershot boss Danny Searle, clearly the happier of the two managers. “Mitch Walker was outstanding, topped off with the penalty save.”

“We created some problems but we’re a little disappointed with our quality at times in the final third. But I think we deserved a point.

“To come to the favourites to go up this year and get a point and a clean sheet, all credit must go to the lads.”
