Hell hath no fury like a sidekick scorned. Dominic Cummings, the former Downing Street aide, is a man on a mission. Just as he once campaigned to end Britain’s membership in the European Union, so he now seeks to end the premiership of Boris Johnson, whom he served as chief strategist until last November.

But there is a crucial difference between these two cases. His quest for Brexit was driven by a principled belief in national independence, whereas today he is motivated by embittered vengeance, having been forced out of his position in an explosive power struggle. After urging us in the 2016 referendum to take back control, Cummings is now consumed with rage at losing control of Number 10.

That sense of spite ran through his extraordinary interview this week with the BBC’s Laura Kuenssberg, where he mixed vindictive attacks with sensational claims.

IN tones of withering arrogance, he repeatedly denounced the inadequacies of the Prime Minister, the failings of the Cabinet, the uselessness of the Tory party, and ambitions of Boris’s wife Carrie.
