Dorries Takes Aim At ‘Elitist, Snobbish' BBC

The BBC may not exist in 10 years – says new Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries as she takes aim at its “elitist” approach and “lack of impartiality”.

But the Cabinet minister insisted she did not want a “war” with the broadcaster.

She told the BBC it would have to set out how it will change before the next license fee settlement, which covers the five years from next April.

Ms. Dorries, who was attending a fringe event at the Conservative Party conference, said the broadcaster’s existence was not assured in the face of stiff competition from streaming services such as Netflix.

She said: “I can’t look into the future. Will the BBC still be here in 10 years? I don’t know. It is a very competitive environment.

“You have got Amazon Prime, Netflix, and other bods coming down the line.
