UK Has Spent £1m A Week For Decade In Vain Bid To Stop Migrant Smugglers

British taxpayers have spent £139,000 every day for a decade trying to halt illegal immigration from France, the Daily Express can reveal.

The colossal drain on the public purse can be disclosed for the first time after this newspaper obtained Home Office documents laying bare the scale of the outlay.

The papers show £508million has been thrown at the crisis since 2010/11 – equal to £50.8million a year.

The vast majority of that spending has gone towards security measures at French border points.
