A leading rights group on Thursday accused Libyan authorities of failing to bring suspected war criminals to justice for their alleged role in crimes against humanity since 2011.
Separately, Libya’s prime minister-designate Abdul Hamid Dheibah was set to name a transitional government on Thursday tasked with unifying the war-torn nation and leading it to elections in December.
Dbeibah, himself selected earlier this month in a UN-sponsored process, will deliver his line-up to Libya’s presidential council, before it is submitted to parliament for approval at a venue and date that have yet to be agreed, a member of his office said late Wednesday.
Libya has not brought any suspects before the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the 10 years since the North African nation was referred to the ICC by the UN Security Council. The allegations centre on suspected crimes committed either during the 2011 uprising that ousted and killed longtime ruler Muammar Qaddafi, or the civil war that followed.
