Gas Users Are No Laughing Matter

Doctors have warned about the dangers of getting high on nitrous oxide after two men were admitted to hospital.

The drug - otherwise known as laughing gas - is regularly used by doctors and dentists to sedate patients having minor procedures.

It is also used in aerosols, whipped cream and as a fuel additive.

Medical staff at St James's Hospital in Dublin told of two cases of young males who presented to the emergency department with progressive disorders of nerves in their arms and legs related to their use of nitrous oxide.
