Great Spectacle Held In Midst Of Pandemic

Japan said farewell to Tokyo 2020 with a spectacular light show with fireworks, music and dance.

The closing ceremony saw the flags of more than 200 countries displayed one last time.

Olympic hero Kellie Harrington carried the tricolour into the stadium surrounded by athletes from around the world.

There was a touching message of thanks to the thousands of volunteers who had worked tirelessly over the past 17 days to help athletes, officials and media.

The Prime Minister of Japan Yoshihide Suga told of the “countless incredible performances from the greatest athletes”.
