ONLY Boris Becker and Bjorn Borg have won the Wimbledon male title at a younger age than 20-year-old Carlos Alcaraz.

Now the charismatic Spaniard, who has a smile as big as his boundless energy, is destined to join the two legends as a multiple champion here along with a fame way beyond SW19 after his sensational first victory.

There was British and Spanish royalty, Hollywood A-listers and the greatest male player in history in Centre Court yesterday.

But the world No.1 stole the limelight and the show with a dramatic, rollercoaster five-set victory in only his fourth grasscourt tournament.

And Novak Djokovic was again left to play the bad guy, before later praising Alcaraz as a combination of himself, Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal.

The new Wimbledon champion, who combines pace and power and a beautiful touch, really is that good.

Andy Murray, the last man to beat the Serb on Centre Court here in the 2013 final and end Britain's 77-year wait for a champion, was back to witness more history. And the potential start of a new era in men's tennis.
