TV star Baz Ashmawy has revealed how he struggles to hold in the tears while working on DIY SOS - but it has made him appreciate life more.

The show, a ratings success with more than half a million people tuning in to the last series, is set to return to our screens this evening at 6.30pm with the Aylward family.

RTE presenter Baz and his team of volunteer craftsmen and women set about the mammoth task of building a house in nine days for Johnny diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease wife Lynn and their two young boys, Mikey and Daire.

Johnny wanted to get the house built for his family as a means of security after being told by doctors that his life expectancy could be just two years.

Baz told the Irish Sunday Mirror how it is hard not to feel upset when meeting and getting to know the people behind the heartbreaking stories.
