Covaxin To Miss Aug 15 Deadline?

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) had identified 12 clinical trial sites of medical institutions and hospitals for conducting the Phase I & II human clinical trials for Covid-19 Vaccine Covaxin. They were supposed to begin the subject enrolment for the human trials by no later than July 7, 2020. However, India Today has learnt that these centres haven’t been able to stick to that deadline.

Sources have indicated that the enrolment process for human trials hasn’t even started at several centres. At AIIMS Delhi, lead investigator Dr Sanjay Rai said that they are still awaiting ethical clearance from the ethics committee. Therefore, until such time the process of recruitment of candidates cannot commence. In AIIMS Patna, even though the approval of ethics committee has been granted, the process of enrolment has not begun, sources have indicated.
