TV host reveals agony of online attacks after her mother died

A TV presenter has spoken out about being trolled after the death of her mother from motor neurone disease.

Kate Spiers had posted a message on social media before heading to be with her dad and three brothers in New Zealand after the tragedy.

But the Scotland’s Home Of The Year star said she was stunned after attacks about her marriage, abuse on her appearance and ability to do her job.

Kate said: “A nasty comment when you’re in a good place mentally is enough to ruin your day but a nasty comment on a bad day can be devastating.

“ When my mum died suddenly, I went back to New Zealand immediately and my husband stayed at home to tie up loose ends – allowing me to drop everything to take the first flight home.

“I put everything on hold, took a month-long break from social media and simply said I was dealing with a personal matter and would be back at some point.
